EOFY HR Pulse Check: 6 Essentials to Set Up for a Strong FY26
As we approach 30 June, it’s the perfect time to check in on your people practices before the new financial year begins. HR isn’t just about reacting, it’s about planning ahead so your business doesn’t get caught out in Q1 of FY26.
Here are six things every business should be reviewing right now:
1. Policies and Compliance
Are your employment contracts, HR policies, and handbooks current and aligned to FY26 legislation and the way your people actually work (hybrid, AI, flexible rosters)?
With the 3.5% minimum wage increase kicking in on 1 July, businesses need to act now to avoid accidental underpayments or compliance risk in FY26.
2. Position Descriptions and Team Structure
If job roles have evolved but the paperwork hasn’t, it’s time for a refresh. Up-to-date PDs support performance, fair pay decisions, and Award compliance. They also help with reclassification, restructures, and setting clear goals for FY26.
3. Performance Reviews and Goal Setting
Heading into Q1 of FY26, are your performance review processes driving results or just ticking boxes? Now’s the time to streamline your approach, set fresh goals for FY26, and ensure every team member understands what success looks like.
4. Engagement and Culture Pulse
End of financial year is a pressure point for many teams. A short pulse survey or check-in can flag risks early and help you reset morale heading into FY26. It’s also a good time to review your EVP and culture commitments.
5. Leadership Capability
Are your people managers ready to lead into the new financial year? Coaching and capability building now can lift engagement, boost retention, and equip them for stronger one-on-ones, clearer feedback, and better decision making.
6. Training and Development
Have you delivered on your L&D promises this year? If not, use EOFY to review what’s been done and lock in a clear plan for Q1–Q2 in FY26. Focus on the skills your business will actually need in the next 6–12 months.
An extra tip: A solid HR audit doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Focus on progress over perfection. EOFY is a great chance to course correct before FY26 kicks off.
